Thoughts on the Year Past

Forgive me if I ramble. It is New Year’s Eve at about 10PM. The Zags are playing OU on ESPN. Amy and I had dinner at the Bristol. The service is always good, nice meal, and we brought a nice Pinot Noir. Amy has now changed the channel to “Raymond”. I thought I would put together a few thoughts on the year past after a few vodka-sodas and the Pinot. Bear with me I will not cover the whole year but just a few things on my mind.

The inauguration of President Obama was a wonderful thing. Bear in mind I wouldn’t vote for him if you paid me. In thought, it shows where our great country has come since the Civil War. Hopefully this is another step we can build on in our future. Don’t fret I will have my two cents on his politics a bit later.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid should hang. Enough said, on second thought, they are the two biggest problems in this country. There is one wish I have for this country, term limits. Two-six year terms for the senate and two-four year terms for the house.

A-Rod is a crook, who cares. Another national championship for North Carolina, Roy has a machine in place. The Cardnials miss the Super Bowl by an incredible play, maybe the best of all time. The Royal’s farm system is working hard, still three to four years out. Then there is Tiger. What do we say? My wife said it best. A week ago they were yapping about him on TV and she turned to me. She said,”Why did he ever get married?” This is what men all over the country say about every athlete.

As to politics in general…I tell people all the time. Don’t blame Obama for this mess. He told us all along in his campaign what he would do. There are only a few things he is slipping on and are really quite small. He brought lobbyists into his group, yes he did it. He had to do so, but shouldn’t have promised. Promised no Pork…..missed that one by a country mile. No more DC politics, not even close again. He cuts more back room deals than the mafia. It bothers me that he apologizes to the world for us and pretends we aren’t a Christian nation. (By the way he is not a Christian in his actions, I thought he was but it is obvious he is not) I think he needs to step up the national security and I hate the spending, but he told us the dirty stuff. The socialism and the leveling of the playing field were pillars of his campaign. With all of this said, life in these United States is about to go south. I asked my Father a couple of weeks back if he thought the Romans knew the day that their empire started to fail. History will look at two dates for this Great American Empire, the day President Obama was elected and the day the health care bill will be passes.

I wish you all the best year possible. Ours has been great even in tough times. That is what makes this country so great!

Crime

So like many of you I am staying up much later than I prefer to watch the Nebraska at Missouri football game. Late in the third it appears the Tigers will take care of business.

A good friend of mine sent me a text today. He wanted my thoughts on the game. He indicated that the line was NU-3. However he was interested in the over-under of 50. He indicated it dropped 4 points. We discussed it and he liked the under. I told him I wasn't sure but I liked the other side because it moved.

So at the end of the first quarter it is nil-nil in a driving rainstorm. I sent him a text and told him I liked the under. He sent back a text that indicated his bookie wouldn't take it. I about jumped out of my chair. What a load of crap! I sent a text that had multiple curse words and my displeasure. I said then move the line. He indicated that the guy was old and stubborn. Please if you are reading this, don't let your bookie be this guy. Call out his manhood and all the dollars you have donated over the years.

-Quick note, make sure you check out Bored to Death on HBO. It is a little slow, but sometimes I laugh like a child.

BREAKING NEWS

I am currently watching Shaq VS. It is a show in which Shaq takes on other professionals in their sport. It is somewhat entertaining waiting for football season. At any rate tune in now! He is playing the beach volleyball girls from the Olympics. The dark headed one, Misty May-Treanor, got HUGE. Her ass is large and she has several rolls on the front side. Meanwhile the FUPA is about to move in for good!

FYI it is on ABC

The Tipping Point

I think anyone that is reading this knows how I feel about the President’s desire for “healthcare reform”. That is just code for the government will take it over and run it. We all know that the government runs things great right now. My favorite is the post office.

Well I have finally had enough with it all. I have been against it and I have argued against it. I even tried to look at it from another angle. Maybe I am the bad conservative holding onto my money. Maybe we should reconsider and help these poor people out that can’t find assistance. I mean it is wrong to go without the basic needs to live right? I don’t mind my money being sent to Africa to help starving children or to give them medicine to fight disease. After much thought I do agree that we must assist the elderly and the young. Something we are doing to a point today. However I am more against socialized medicine even more than ever.

I got to thinking about the costs involved and what it would take to pay for it. I took the liberty of jumping on Google and grabbing a few stats. Feel free to request the links; I would be glad to provide them. According to Google data, the cost for a family of 4 for health insurance is $12,800 for 2008. That is a lot of money! No one can argue that one bit. However I believe it to be within reach for almost all of us. First off there are jobs everywhere that offer health benefits or some sort of assistance with it. Sometimes that isn’t enough now is it? We fight and claw to pay that portion that we pay on our own. Sometimes as much as 75% of it, this number is not sited but from what I have heard it is possible, my guess is most plans pay closer to 50%.

Times are tough at the Peterson ranch right now as they are with most Americans not living off of the government teat. My wife and I are both commissioned sales people. Due to economic conditions, sales are down therefore our take home pay is down. So our liberal friends would say, “Ask Uncle Sam for assistance.” We have not, we have shored up our spending (novel idea, feel free to use it congress). It isn’t always fun or what we want to do, but we are doing what we need to get by. It is working quite well for us. Therefore I have a few suggestions that my fellow Americans can use to pay for their health insurance.

The figures I am about to propose are not exact and they do not apply to everyone. I took some liberties but modest ones on all figures, bear with me and I will show you how to pay for those nasty premiums.
This list is the percent of Americans that own or enlist the following services:
82% own a cell phone (2 plans at $40 per month)
56% have cable TV ($40 per month)
89% own a car ($400 payment, insurance, & gas)
20% smoke (3 packs per week at $5 per pack)
50% drink coffee ($5 per week at home)
66% drink soda (4 2L per week at $1.25)
63% drink alcohol (1 12 pack per week at $9)

By my calculations, the average American household could cut as much as $665 per month if they cut out all of these items. Now I realize that not all people consume and use the items above. I also went very modest on all items. I want you to think about if government run health care is the way you want your country to crash and burn or if you think there is an alternative? Write your representative and let them know that the system is broken yet the government running it is not the answer!

Hello

I must apologize for my absence. I do have a valid reason. I am currently heading into week three of a seven weekend event. Between trips to California, Arkansas, and St. Louis, visiting relatives and float trips I have been quite busy. I am not here to complain, but since someone is questioning my thoughts, only one trip is for my benefit. I thought I would catch up on a few random items. I was told recently that I am too negative and need some light hearted script. You came to the wrong place! I will only be sour about a couple of items.

President Obama referred to a police officer as acting stupidly. In his next sentence he went on to say he didn’t have all the facts. POB made a huge mistake. It is insanity. I am not going to go into the whole mess, but he made a huge mistake and even when he realized he was wrong, he will not apologize. Click on the link: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/24/obama-offers-different-responses-racially-charged-controversies/

Tom Watson. Do I need say more?

Ricky Henderson is about to go into the hall of fame. I wish I was there for the speech. Do you think Ricky will ever refer to himself in third person? In honor of the event I encourage you to do a third person weekend. Refer to yourself in third person for the entire weekend. When people ask why, then tell them you pay homage to Ricky. If you catch this late, then pick out a common work day. Very nice article on ESPN. It goes to tell us that Ricky wasn’t just about flair and third person, but really about the game and doing what he could to help his team win. Quite eye opening to this scribe. Feel free to skip down past the video for the story: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/hof09/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=4352942

Bryan has decided that he will climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Now I know you thinking: A. He will never do it. B. He can’t do it. C. The man has lost it and is going into a midlife crisis. The answer? Probably part of C, but not totally. It is actually not that difficult of a trek and there is no face climbing involved. The difficulty will be handling the altitude. I have a near commitment from Mr. Stoll to join me. We are shooting for 2011 with the possibility of 2012. The cost is not cheap due to travel. Anyone interested, let me know.

-Last word, please keep my Aunt Margaret Peterson and her family in your prayers. She is fighting terminal cancer and things have been rough.

At that Moment in Time

I am sitting here watching Banister throw a nice 1 run game through the 5th. It has kind of been nice watching them be “in” games again and have Soria to close the deal when they are up. At any rate I do see progress in this team. Naturally I jump back and forth between Family Guy on TBS and the RSN. We have one large issue with this set up. I get stuck watching the FG and not the game.
I have been hooked on several TV shows over the years. I have watched MASH, Cheers, The Simpson, Seinfeld, 2 & ½ Men and on. Now there are only two real shows that will/have stood the test of time. Seinfeld will always be at the top of my list. Yet we are blessed again to have a show that is legendary and great. Family Guy is able to make fun of every single race, handicap, religion etc. They find a way for me and my sick sense of humor to enjoy all of the non-PC things that I love.
If you aren’t a current fan I suggest you chase this opportunity. It is on every night on re-runs and of course on FOX Sundays. You can always catch it at www.hulu.com. I would also suggest you check out Seth McFarlane’s pet project www.sethcomedy.com. You might want to check out a few other shows running now or shortly: HBO: Hung, True Blood, and Entourage. You might also check out Nurse Jackie.

Health Care

We as Americans face a grave danger. What could be so grave you ask? The federal government wants to run a portion or all of our medical insurance and management. President Obama is pushing for it and people in this country actually think it is a good idea. I am not going to write 10,000 words as to why we should not do this. I am going to give you just a few items to consider.
-People in Canada drive to our country to pay out of pocket for services.
-People in the UK have a slight problem. The government demands that no one stay in the waiting room for more than four hours. Because of socialized medicine, you instead wait in the ambulance outside the hospital to circumvent that issue.
-Every single person in this country is able to get help if they show up at the emergency room.
Just think about these three items. Do yourself a favor and do some research. Learn what this is really about and write your representatives in the senate and house. Do not allow this mistake to occur.

RANTS

I just want to catch up a few items that have been on my mind in the past few days.

It is quite apparent that Kobe and the Lakers are going to win the NBA finals. They are just a more complete team and Lamar Odem has come to play. What is amusing is Kobe and his antics. He has said over and over that winning a title without the aid of Shaq is not important to him. That is all well and good but he knows and we all know and he knows we know that he wants it real bad without Shaq. There is nothing wrong with that. He is working harder and becoming a better leader with each game. However the “Kobe Face” is out of control. He has been so conscious his whole career of how the media views him and he desire to give a signature look or pose. Since day one he has mimicked Jordan. Someone must have told him that it is time to be his own man. Because of this he has abandoned his Jordan want to be antics and moved to the “Kobe Face”. It will be just a few short years before we mock this look.

Speaking of basketball and laughing at the expense of others. ….Have you had a chance to see the Memphis basketball program as of late? We are up to two players (Rose and Dozier) with suspect SAT scores and the brother of Rose not paying for a couple of rides he took on the chartered plane. At this point Coach Cal has yet to be accused of any wrong doing. Memo to Kentucky: Good luck with that dirtbag! The greatness of the internet did grant us this gem in honor of Cal’s work. A nice video and song set to the RHCP.

Finally we got good news from our President this week. He finally found a country we do not have to apologize to after any action. He did not apologize to Germany or the Nazis for WWII. After his repeated apologizing to the world and certain religious groups, I fully expected him to apologize to the Germans over the whole WWII mess at the D-Day ceremonies last week. Well played POB!

Young Con Anthem

I ran across this You Tube video via Fox News. It is called the "Young Con Anthem" and I like it. On any other day of the week you can pencil me in for the last guy to watch a rap video. Yet, these young men sing to my heart. Take a quick minute and check it out, I am sure you will be happy you did.

Lyrics:

Serious C:
“Yo this ones for all the young conservatives.
I rep the Northeast and I’m still a young con,
Let your voice release, you don't have to be obamatrons.
I debate any poser who don't shoot straight,
Government spending needs to deflate,
Your ideas are lightweight,
Ya careers in checkmate
I frustrate. I increase the pulse rate
I hate when,
government dictatin, makin, statements, bout how to be a merchant,
How to run a restaurant, how to lay the pavement
Bailout a business, but can't protect an infant
Deficiencies are blatant, young con treatment
I stand one man, outnumbered at my college
Thank you Miss Cali for reminding us of marriage
Can't support abortion, and call yourself a Christian
I support life, you're a puzzled politician
Terrorists were imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay,
Now they're in our neighborhoods, planning out doomsday
No such thing as utopia,
no government can control ya, baby ya,
Reap the benefits hard work, self reliant
Listen to Stiltz, my dude’s a lyrical giant
Yo Stiltz... make it two time... please”

Stiltz:
“I'm 6'9 head and shoulder above the rest
Liberals playin checkers, I'm playin chess
My conservative view is drill baby drill
You can say you hate me but
I'm praying for you still
My dislike for thee most def is not hyperbole
Taxes are the subject and I will spit them verbally
I'm just livin life a conservative philosophy
Sorry Hilary not a right wing conspiracy
We need more women with intellectual integrity
I'm talkin Megyn Kelly not Nancy Pelosi
My main motto is you best work hard
It's not the hand you were given, but how you lay down your cards
I don't speak lies but I spit the facts
28% the new capital gains tax
Porkulus bill lacks a few stats
The more money we spend, the more mine is worth Jack
The Bible says we're a people under God,
Usin radar for radical Jihad
AIG was hooked up by Chris Dodd
A classy gift ain't an Ipod
The standards of my crew ain’t republicans dude
I'm reppin Jesus Christ and conservative views
Study history and true conservative moves
Every single time they refuse to lose
I’m starting to see a modern day Jimmy Carter
When really nothin but a Reagan era starter”

Serious C:
“Yo, We americans son
Hit ya with some knowledge
The movement has begun
Everyone can succeed
Because our soldiers bleed, for us
I said it in the verse,
now I'll say it in the chorus”

Stiltz:
“We young conservatives son
Hard work is our motto
The movement has begun
EVERYONE can succeed cause our soldiers bleed, daily
My views are rock solid, no chance you can break me”

Serious C:
“Phase me, make me, into something that ain’t me
Serious c... can’t nobody shake me
great like the Gatsby, poppin posers like acne
Don't matter if your gay, straight, Christian or Muslim
There's one thing we all hate, called socialism.
It's loathsome, and America ain’t the outcome,
Raise taxes on the people,
And you’re gonna feel symptoms, problems
I gotta message for a young con:
superman that socialism,
waterboard that terrorism”

Stiltz:
“I fulfill the role that's inherently mine
Teaching politics through my rap and my rhyme
I'm signing off this track with a question in mind
How will this country get its precious change in time?
Three things taught me conservative love:
Jesus, Ronald Reagan, plus Atlas Shrugged
Saving our nation from inflation devastation
On my hands and my knees praying for salvation”

Serious C:
“Yo, We americans son
Hit ya with some knowledge
The movement has begun
Everyone can succeed
Because our soldiers bleed, for us
I said it in the verse,
now I'll say it in the chorus”

Stiltz:
“We young conservatives son
Hard work is our motto
The movement has begun
EVERYONE can succeed cause our soldiers bleed, daily
My views are rock solid, no chance you can break me”

Sad Day

I knew that our country’s leaders have been teaching us to hate ourselves. But the story on Foxnews.com http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,522659,00.html shocked me more than I could ever believe.

A woman in Texas was told to remove the American flag in her office because it was offending people. What in the name of Mrs. Ross is wrong with this country when this happens? Oh, it gets much worse. She walked into the office and it was rolled up lying on the GROUND!

I know our leaders have been running around the world apologizing. They have told us and anyone that would listen that we are/were wrong on several items. Yet I never thought we would all buy it enough to drop to this level. We are so ashamed of our own faces that we can’t even honor the men and women that have died to protect this great country (sorry, I should say once great country).

The story does have a happy ending. The company was shamed into letting the woman replace the flag. She has indicated she will continue to fly it as long as she is employed with the company.

Memorial Day Weekend

It is finally Memorial day weekend. Everyone is happy and ready for their favorite beer and BBQ. This time of year everyone is excited about the pool opening and the official start to summer. Do me a favor this year. Go ahead and do all of that stuff. Along with that do me one more thing. Make sure you remember what the weekend is about and honoring our servicemen. My brother in law has a great tradition. Every year he sits his children down and explain to them what this weekend is about. Do it ot your kids or someone that might not kinow.

Morgan's Team BBQ

A quick thanks to everyone that made the BBQ a success last night. We raised over $1,800 this year. More than last year on a down economy is quite impressive. I believe everyone had a good time, we look forward to it again next year.

In preparing for the BBQ this week, I came home early one day to mow the lawn. When I mow I have the most random thoughts running through my head. I just get off on some strange subject and I end up thinking about the bathroom issues of early American history. Well on this day I got to thinking about the South. You know that place where everyone is attracted to their cousins. The place that people think is a good place, but once they get there, they realize that most of the inhabitants can’t read past a sixth grade level. What got me really thinking is how in the last 70’s and early 80’s our country was amused by it. Why was that and at what point did we decide to ignore it. The television programming and even movie fawned over the South. We had Dallas, Dukes of Hazard, Smokey and the Bandit and on and on. For some reason this country was amused by cowboy hats, what I would consider less than stellar control of the English language, poor WT etc. Why were we interested in the South? What was so good about all of these people and their strange lifestyles. I guess is says something about our society when we can evolve and move past things.

Speaking of moving past things. I guess the Catholic church is kind of over the whole abortion thing. I see that President Obama spoke today on campus for graduation at Notre Dame. I have to wonder why they would let a man that voted 3 times that it is ok to kill a baby once born in a botched abortion. Yes, you read it correctly. He voted that if an abortion somehow allowed the baby to be born, alive, then the doctor can end the baby’s life right there.

America's Decaying Moral Fiber

I have had enough. After another wonderful day at work, I have had enough! I have three accounts since last Friday that have shown me little to no loyalty. The account on Friday upsets me about as much as any of them. I saved the SOB $80,000 in the past three years. He left me for a competitor that was less than 10% of my price. Now I know 10% in this economy is quite a bit of money. I would agree 100%. However, the cost of this coverage is spread amongst 100 other people. We are talking a few dollars to do the right thing in a business relationship. Today I had another instance of lack of respect and loyalty. I am currently fighting on another one.

My little story is not mean to beg the masses for pity. It was just another example of the downfall of our society. This leadership of this great country, our leaders of business, even the clergy live their collective lives with less and less commitment to do the right thing. How can we ask the man next to us, our children, or even other countries to do what is right? It is time for each and every one of us to step up and do the little things to continue the greatness of this country. Do me a favor and just live tomorrow the way that you would if your grandma was watching you.

Driving through the Peterson mind on a Thursday

Just a few random thoughts on a Thursday evening.

Recently a friend of mine, Mr. Strausbaugh, started a blog. I was told by another friend that has been referred to as two-faced informed me that the new Strausbaugh blog was similar to mine (in the past). He indicated that I rarely posted. I can’t argue with his comment, but I can argue that less can be more. My former blog and now its new spawn son go for the best. I promise to you my readers I will have quality over quantity.

I had a great workout tonight. I got a new plan from a Men’s Health article. It focuses on higher weight with high reps, but just a few specific workouts for 3 days of the week. I finished with my usual cardio, but I can feel the difference afterwards.

I have to side with Kobe Bryant on the incident with Ron Artest last night. Kobe got his with a flagrant I. Artest was called for the foul as well. Kobe was merely holding position and fighting off the “one that should be caged”.

Bidden

Good evening all. Thought I would throw in my .02 on our VP Joe Biden while watching the Big Lebowski. I told myself that I would not make snide comments about the current administration. I can not say that I have done it to the level that I should have. But after Biden's latest comments on H1N1 Flu, it is time to speak. What would ever make the man make the statements that he is advising his family to stay away from air travel, sub way etc. This man has gone beyond ignorant. This is not what make the story really funny. The best part is the administration makes a statement to the effect of "I think what the vice president meant to say......." What in Sam Hill are they thinking. How can they think what he was saying? How about we just state, "The VP is an idiot, just ignore his comments each week until we let you know if they are ok? Yet the Libs like to tell me the reason they voted for BO is because they thought Palin was "stupid".

New Blog

I just put this site up today. I really wanted to just test it and see how things work. Bear with me until I get it up and running full speed.
